Scholarships Presented 

At a recent meeting, Larry A. Derr, District Deputy Grand Master of the First Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, presented scholarships to four deserving students residing in the Lancaster area.  Shaun Bullock, of Coatesville, received a $3,000.00 A. Ralph Taylor Scholarship; Emily Duvall, of New Providence, received a $2,000.00 Grand Lodge Higher Education Scholarship; Dominick Falcon, of Lancaster, received a $3,000.00 Grand Master’s Scholarship; and Sofie Madsen, of Lebanon, received a $1,000.00 Clarence Uhland Memorial Scholarship. Each of these scholarships is from the Pennsylvania Masonic Youth Foundation, which is a charitable extension of the Grand Lodge of Masons in Pennsylvania, and which presented 61 scholarships totaling $171,200 this year to young people with a Masonic relative, or who are members of a Masonic-sponsored youth group. 

Mr. Bullock and Mr. Falcon were eligible as grandsons of Nathaniel Gilchrist, a member of Lodge No. 43, Lancaster.  Mr. Bullock will be attending Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, as a Freshman with a major in Aerospace & Aeronautical Engineering.  He graduated from Downingtown West High School in 2017.  Mr. Falcon will be attending Lehigh University, as a Junior, with a major in Biochemistry.  He graduated from Conestoga Valley High School in 2015. 

Miss Duvall was eligible as a granddaughter of Gerald Duvall, a member of Charles M. Howell Lodge No. 496, Millersville.  She will be attending West Chester University, as a Freshman with a major in Communications Sciences and Disorders, Speech Pathology and a minor in Spanish.  She graduated from Solanco High School in 2017. 

Miss Madsen is eligible as a granddaughter of Robert Fackler, a member of Abraham C. Treichler Lodge No. 682, Elizabethtown.  She will be attending the University of California, as a Freshman with a major in Biomedical Engineering.  She graduated from Cedar Crest High School in 2017. 

Mr. Derr serves as the District Deputy Grand Master of the Lodges that meet in Columbia, Elizabethtown, Ephrata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Manheim, Millersville and Mount Joy.
